Why Are Most Kids Drinks So High in Sugar?

If you’ve ever stood in the juice box aisle staring at labels, you’re definitely not alone.

As parents, we’re trying to make better choices for our kids — but the options can feel incredibly confusing. Drinks that look healthy often contain a surprising amount of sugar, and many are marketed with words like “natural,” “vitamin-packed,” or “organic” while still containing more sugar than we expected. 30+ grams in 6oz - oh my!

Before creating Dee’s, I found myself checking label after label trying to answer one simple question:

Why does every kids drink seem so sugary?

The reality is that many traditional juice drinks and juice cocktails contain large amounts of fruit juice concentrates or added sugars to make them extra sweet and kid appealing. And while an occasional sugary drink is absolutely part of real life, many parents are looking for lower sugar options they can feel better about serving more regularly.

That’s exactly why we created Dee’s Happy Hydration.

We wanted a drink that still felt fun and exciting for kids, but with a more balanced approach:

  • only 3g of sugar per box
  • added electrolytes
  • no artificial dyes
  • convenient for lunchboxes, sports, and busy family life

Because hydration shouldn’t have to come with a huge sugar overload.

At the end of the day, most parents aren’t trying to be perfect. We’re all just trying to make slightly better choices where we can.

And sometimes that starts with something as simple as a juice box.
